Hankook Delcam prepares for largest ever User Meeting

Staff at Delcam’s Korean joint venture, Hankook Delcam, are preparing for the company’s largest ever User Meeting following sales to a record number of new customers during the first half of this year. The previous best attendance of 700 delegates is expected to be passed for this year’s Meeting to be held on 27th and 28th August.

The growth in sales has followed the relocation of the company’s headquarters to larger offices in Seoul last year and an increase to 36 staff. Sales in the first half of this year are almost 40% up on the first half of 2003 and over 70% up compared to the first six months of 2002. These results make Hankook Delcam not only one of the largest CADCAM resellers in Korea but also one of the fastest-growing suppliers in the country.

Delegates to the User Meeting will have their first opportunity to see the new version of Delcam’s PowerSHAPE hybrid modelling software, PowerSHAPE Pro. This offers a complete solution for designers of complex shapes such as those found in the footwear, packaging and electrical appliance industries, by combining the speed and ease-of-use of solid modelling with the design flexibility of surface modelling. Unique functionality within PowerSHAPE Pro includes a range of powerful morphing commands for whole model edits of CAD models and the embossing technology that is at the heart of Delcam’s Total Modelling approach to design.

Delegates will also see demonstrations of the latest version of PS-Moldmaker. This module allows manufacturers of injection mould tools to move from conventional 2D methods to 3D mould design with direct links to the workshop for shop-floor machining. Two case studies will be described to illustrate the savings possible with the new approach.

On the manufacturing side, particular attention will be given to new strategies available for high-speed and five-axis machining in the PowerMILL CAM system and to the latest release of the PowerINSPECT inspection software, which includes support for On-Machine Verification as well as inspection on co-ordinate measuring machines. The new range of adaptive machining techniques available through the integration of PowerMILL and PowerINSPECT will also be described.

Hankook Delcam was established as a joint venture between Delcam and company President Chan Oong Jeong in 1986 to take advantage of the growing market for CADCAM in Korea. It was one of the first resellers formed by Delcam when the company started the international promotion of its software in the 1980s.

Like all other suppliers, Hankook Delcam was hit hard by the effects of the problems in the Asian economy in the late 1990s. However, unlike other CADCAM providers, the company, with the support of the UK partner, made the decision to retain its entire staff, knowing that their skills would be vital to provide the continuing support needed by its customers during the crisis and to rebuild sales as the economy improved.

As a result, Hankook Delcam is now able to provide exceptional technical support from very experienced specialists in both design and manufacturing. Together with the strengths of the Power Solution software, this high level of service has enabled the company to become one of the leading CADCAM suppliers in Korea, with customers including many of Korea’s leading manufacturing companies and academic institutions.
