Delcam will demonstrate applications of its Power Solution range of CADCAM software in the dental industry at the IDS dental technology exhibition to be held in Cologne, Germany, from 12 th to 16 th April. Although CADCAM and reverse engineering tend to be associated with engineering applications, Delcam believes that the dental industry can use similar methods to reduce costs and improve quality. Delcam's goal is to reduce costs for both patients and dentists by offering a complete, flexible and easy to use solution. Most dental projects start with the capture of scan data from a model or from the patient. This process will be demonstrated on the stand with a Renishaw Triclone measuring machine and Delcam’s CopyCAD reverse engineering software. The demonstration will show how this combination of technology enables dental technicians to quickly and accurately create computer models from samples and so bridge the gap between the physical and digital world. It will confirm that CopyCAD is quick, simple and interactive, offering even casual users the power to overcome quickly any data capture problems. |

Once the data exists in digital form, it can be manipulated with Delcam’s PowerSHAPE CAD software, either to refine the model or to convert the tooth design into a mould design. The system includes a wide range of modelling techniques to smooth, simplify or duplicate the design, plus automatic generation of split lines, draft and run-off surfaces, marginal gaps and cement thicknesses, and automatic separation of core and cavity surfaces. Once the design of the model or mould has been finalised, it can be passed to Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM system for the generation of machining data. The system’s wide range of strategies can be used for the machining of all the different materials used in the dental industry, including plastics, ceramics, zirconium and titanium. In all cases, the toolpaths produced will ensure efficient machining that will give a high quality surface finish requiring minimal hand finishing. For customers requiring a bespoke manufacturing solution, Delcam’s Custom Software Group is able to undertake customisation and automation projects for specialist applications. The primary focus of the group is working with clients to automate repetitive processes, reducing time and costs throughout the customer’s design and manufacturing process.
